I'm finally getting around to writing up my Computers in Libraries notes on the staff wiki. One of the keynote speakers, Chris Sherman, talked about search engines and he mentioned ask.com. It has a simple search box with a list of search tools on the left hand side. These tools allow searchers to look for different things such as directions, weather, local information, conversions, etc. The search box changes depending on the selected search tool.
It would be nice to have this kind of search functionality for our web site. A simple search box and then options for searching various content collections on our web site such as infoLINK, metaLINK, virtual ref, subject resources, library services, special collections, etc. Maybe we could come up with local information or resources that people could search.
