"Containing the eResources Explosion"

Speaker is Cheri Duncan, James Madison University, VA
Electronic Resources and Libraries 2007

She described the growth in their electronic resources. They stream audio music reserves (200,000+ streaming audio tracks) and stream videos (2,200 streaming videos). Print newspaper check-in has been discontinued. E-resources librarian in reference.

Ideas for providing better support for e-resources.

Stop checking in print journals & annual standing orders.
Revisit microform and binding practices.
Use vendor-supplied MARC records.
Utlize vendor shelf ready services.
Combining A-Z list and link resolver with one vendor so you only have to maintain one knowledge base.
Staff check holdings information for e-resources in March and end of the summer.

JMU uses Innovative ERMS. They have a student assistant who downloads usage statistics from different vendor websites (monthly when possible, but minimally quarterly). Staff compiles into spreadsheet and then put in an Access database which can be queried (SQL). Selectors may query database for usage information.
