Electronic Resources & Libraries 2007 session
Speaker is Nathan Rupp, Electronic Resources Librarian, Cornell University Libraries
Talk on improving internal communication for e-resources.
Tech services reorganized into Acquisitions & Cataloging, Database Management Services, E-Resources & Serials Management (ERSM), Metadata Services (now part of IT, responsible for digitization).
Librarians from the ERSM unit are "embedded" into other groups throughout the library including selection teams, collection development executive committee, database review committee, electronic resources committee, Systems groups & public services executive committee.
Educational efforts include a technical services training series (e.g. introduction to metadata), and ERSM training of selectors.
Communication via IT includes the LTS web site, a listserv (libit-l, library information technology), and a knowledge base (not shared between ERSM staff and IT staff who monitor the listserv). They are not using a wiki.
No policy on turnaround for responses to patrons so it varies.
They have a listserv for communication with vendors.
NERF - Networked Electronic Resources Form , use tracking software called mantis for eNERF, selectors and other staff may access information. Includes information about trials, if resource is available in another format, ILS system number, fund code, and selectors can indicate how resources should appear in federated search system. They have criteria for what resources should appear in the federated search system (final decision made by database review committee). eNERF is a pilot project. Selectors aren't using it yet. They do have an ERM (III). Information needs to be ported into ERM. It doesn't have an interface available to all selectors; it's just available to Tech Services.
